Part-Time STEM Enrichment Instructor – Afterschool Programs

The Brain Workout Academy, Inc. is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable educator to facilitate playful, hands-on STEM enrichment sessions for students in grades K–8 at schools and community-based afterschool programs in Palm Beach County.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher, retired educator, substitute teacher, or education professional who enjoys working with children and wants flexible, meaningful part-time work.

About the Position

Our instructors engage students in collaborative STEM challenges involving engineering, mathematics, science, problem-solving, and creative thinking. Sessions may include designing towers, launching paper airplanes, building catapults, exploring optical illusions, solving logic challenges, and more.

TBWA provides the complete curriculum, presentation slides, instructor notes, student materials, and training. Instructors do not need to develop lessons from scratch.

Programs are generally scheduled on weekday afternoons. The number of sessions varies according to the program schedule, and some sites offer two back-to-back sessions.

Compensation

  • $55 per instructional hour

  • Paid training and professional development at $20 per hour

  • Mileage reimbursement for approved program travel

 

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate engaging, hands-on STEM sessions for students in grades K–8

  • Follow TBWA lesson plans while bringing warmth, energy, and strong teaching skills to each session

  • Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed learning environment

  • Encourage teamwork, perseverance, problem-solving, and student participation

  • Prepare by reviewing lesson materials before each assigned session

  • Use PowerPoint to present and navigate TBWA-provided instructional slides during each session, using a laptop, projector, or site display.

  • Set up and organize materials before the session and account for them afterward

  • Communicate professionally with TBWA staff and participating sites

  • Arrive on time and maintain dependable attendance

  • Participate in required training and coaching

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Classroom teaching, afterschool, camp, tutoring, or youth-program experience

  • Strong classroom-management and communication skills

  • Confidence facilitating elementary or middle-school STEM activities

  • Teaching certification, education degree, or STEM-related background preferred

  • Retired teachers and experienced educators are strongly encouraged to apply

  • Ability to learn new activities and follow detailed instructional plans

  • Comfortable using Microsoft PowerPoint, including opening presentations, presenting slides, navigating between slides, playing embedded media, and connecting a laptop to a projector or display.

  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to program sites in Palm Beach County

  • Ability to carry and transport program materials

  • Employment is contingent upon successfully completing the required background screening before working with students.

  • The selected candidate must initially pay the background-screening fee. TBWA will reimburse the documented fee after the employee completes seven instructional sessions.

Schedule

This is a part-time position based on program needs. Sessions generally begin at 3:00 p.m. on weekdays. Candidates must be consistently available to arrive at program sites by 2:45 p.m. to set up and prepare for instruction. Additional opportunities may be available during the summer.
