Led by our Founder & CEO, a nationally recognized leader in math education and curriculum innovation, our instructors are carefully selected for their ability to connect with students, spark curiosity, and make each session both meaningful and fun. Dr. Hagit Sela (Kate)

Founder & Director

Hagit, also known as Dr. Kate, is a seasoned mathematics educator with a passion for playful learning. She holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education and has served as a professor at the University of Maryland and the University of Florida. Drawing on her experience and love for people, she founded The Brain Workout Academy—an enrichment program offering hands-on STEM activities that spark curiosity and strengthen critical thinking.

Teresa Thomas

Program Operations & Development Coordinator

Teresa Thomas is a veteran math learning specialist with 32 years of experience across PK3–12th grade. She has taught, presented at national conferences, trained Montessori educators, and instructed college-level math and education courses. As a former ESE Coordinator and support facilitator, Teresa brings deep expertise and a passion for making math accessible to all learners.

Dr. Abbe Aroshas

STEM Instructor

Abbe, a retired dentist and educator, brings a strong science background and a passion for hands-on learning. With 17 years in public education, she now designs and facilitates playful, real-world STEM experiences that spark curiosity—especially in students who may not see themselves as “science kids.” She believes STEM should be joyful, inclusive, and empowering.

Regina Belcher

STEM Instructor

Hi! I’m a retired Palm Beach County math teacher with a lifelong passion for helping students make sense of math. Since 1995, I’ve taught across elementary through high school and served as a district resource teacher, always exploring engaging ways to bring learning to life. My goal is simple: help every student see that they can do math. I look forward to supporting learners as they grow in confidence, curiosity, and mathematical thinking.
