Throughout her career Dr. Kate noticed that numerous students tend to memorize information rather than engaging in critical thinking. It seems that some individuals may find comfort in memorization because it provides a sense of certainty and familiarity. Memorization can be useful in certain situations, such as when learning basic facts or formulas. However, critical thinking plays a crucial role in problem-solving, decision-making, and understanding complex concepts. Critical thinking also develops our brains. When we engage in critical thinking, our brains are actively involved in processing information, analyzing data, making connections, and evaluating evidence. This mental activity stimulates various regions of the brain, promoting neural growth and strengthening existing neural pathways. Promoting critical thinking can help individuals become more adept at reasoning, analyzing information, and applying knowledge in practical contexts. It is through critical thinking that innovative ideas emerge, complex problems are solved, and new discoveries are made.

Moreover, engaging in critical thinking is fun! It involves immersing ourselves in captivating, purposeful, and enjoyable activities. Witnessing the sparkle in the eyes of my participants as they engage in these activities is truly rewarding. They connect with their peers, they are playful, and they lose track of time. This is exciting! Click here to see photos that show how fun learning looks like.

Dr. Kate developed the Brain Workout Academy’s curriculum with a goal to focus on mind-stimulating activities and social interactions. As such, the classes develop confidence, perseverance, and a love of learning.

Dr. Kate is excited to share her knowledge and experience helping her students reach their full potential. Dr. Kate believes that being mentally and physically active at any age is key to a fulfilling life.
